I think it's a problem with your PHP version.

I have the same problem after upgrading from 1.0 to 2.0-beta. Server running PHP/4.6.6 on Apache/1.3.39 (Unix), with no control over upgrading.

The minimum requirements for roundcube are PHP 5.2.1+, apache 1.4.13+ Howto_Requirements.

You could contact your host about the outdated php version. Maybe they can move you to a different server.
