Screenshot attached.

I didn't compact my mailbox, so the messages show up and RoundCube tries to open them in the preview pane when I click on them, or when the cursor moves to them (when I delete, move another).

As long as the message appears on the list, you should be able to open it. Also Thunderbird behaves like this.
