Single vs Dbl click in maillist

hello again

another usability one.

i keep getting confused that i have to dblclick on an email to open it. i think this is because the mouse cursor is a hand. also, conventially in other webmail systems a single click opens the email. so, a few suggestions

1 - change the mouseover cursor state to be normal when hovering over an email message in the list view 2 - make single click open the email message. if you do this you will argue that it's difficult to select and in fact multi-select feature gets hidden. you can counter this by having hover select a message, if the user holds down cntrl it then "locks" that selection and subsequent clicks on other list entries initiate the multi-select process.
