using alias login names

Description
It would be great if it would be possible to use alias login names to circumvent entering ugly cryptic login strings instead of intuitive login names.
It would be neccessary to create some kind of alias table file or even some gui for it.

There's an alias col in the users table which can be filled individually. Unfortunately there's not GUI for that yet. This would either be part of the user prefs or a separate admin panel.
