I'll second that!

POP3 would be nice too... Some of our servers do not
support IMAP...

In fact IMAP4 is not very popular and not all mail servers
support this protocol, however almost all mail servers
support POP3. Though it is not so easy to implement POP3
(architectural changes needed in roundcube), I guess it is
worth the time and resource.

that is the stupidest fucking idea EVER

Do you even KNOW what POP3 is ?

  • Severity changed from critical to normal

that is the stupidest fucking idea EVER

Do you even KNOW what POP3 is ?

A more helpful comment would have been: The POP3 protocol is not intended to be used to manage e-mail server-side. Therefore, it makes no sense to support it in RoundCube.

comment:5 Changed 8 years ago by farrokhi

But any other webmail that I have worked with DOES support POP3.

Roundcube is enough MATURED NOW, We needs to Support the POP3 too because many Server does support POP3 and NOT IMAP yet(eg: live.com/Hotmail.com,Free Yahoo for desktop). On the other hand now a days we have POWERFUL PROCESSOR Server with HIGH BANDWIDTH as compared to 6-7 years before and with much cheaper price as the TECHNOLOGY HAD GROWN VERY RAPIDLY. Now we can manage to have REMOTE POP3 accounts on our Server on demand.
Kindly reanalyze this Ticket/comments.

Thanking You.

With the latest git master version or Roundcube, we have abstracted the storage layer in order to make it possible (in theory) to replace the IMAP backend with something else, like POP3. But still, there are no plans to add POP3 as a core feature to Roudcube. However, anybody is now free to start implementing a POP3 connector for Roundcube and we're willing to give support for this. Alternatively, you should consider installing fetchmail and gather your mail from POP accounts into a local IMAP account which can then be accessed with Roundcube.

Hello everybody!
I've spent some time creating a pop3fetcher plugin for Roundcube.
You can find it here:

https://github.com/morepaolo/roundcube-pop3fetcher

I'm still working on it, adding features requested by users and fixing bugs, so tell me if you find this useful!

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
